Meera Snghani

Meera’s first encounter with yoga was at 16, when her grandfather gave her a book on the practice of hatha yoga for westerners. She took her book, then shelved it for eight years, during which she led a very interesting life. In her early twenties, Meera happened to take notice of the book and, in her tiny bedroom she practiced many of the postures and immediately began to feel yoga’s charm. As the universe would have it, she stole her first book by J. Krishnamurti, On Love and Loneliness, from her mother and life just hasn’t been the same since. But, it’s even more interesting than ever before.

Meera has been a student of yoga for nine years and a teacher of yoga for more than five years. Her primary teacher has been Gabriel Halpern, whom she met around the time she began teaching yoga. She consistently apprenticed with Gabriel in the Gentle class for four years, (October 2001 - October 2005); and, she was also an apprentice in Gabriel’s Tuesday morning class for two-and-a-half years (September 2003 – January 2006). Meera has taken workshops and classes with Manuso Manos, Lois Steinberg, and Patricia Walden. She is working towards certification in the lyengar yoga method, and hopes to receive it before leaving the U.S. with her wonderful Danish husband.
